About shirtless men - I'd say it's kind of frowned upon here too, unless it's around a beach area or men who are doing physical work and simply would take their shirt off because it's too hot. If I saw a shirtless man just walking around where I live - that is, not near a beach :) - , my first thought would be he's a drunkard. About the lack of convoys - this is a second video I've seen where Africans notice how little distance there is between our high-ups and commoners. I think it's not just because of relative safety; I think it's partly us being quite a small country, and partly us all being great-grandchildren or grandchildren of peasants. We all have ancestors who used to be peasants or working class, or lower middle class at best. The upper class was German speaking; when Estonia became independent in 1918, they got first their privileges taken from them, and they became just regular citizens like anybody else, and during the WWII they moved to Germany. Basically, it's a small society consisting of people who had pretty similar social standing just a few generations ago; everyone here knows someone who knows someone who happens to personally know the president, or the prime minister or similar, they cannot be seen as completely removed from everyday life. And for the same reason, it wouldn't seem to be too far fetched for most people to try their luck in politics, if they're motivated enough. Same goes for culture celebrities, like singers or actors. Anyone would know someone who went to the same school with them or is friends with their sister or something.
